The Team for Research in Ubiquitous Secure Technology (TRUST) will sponsor 20 undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds and cultures, to participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience located at TRUST partner campuses: UC Berkeley, Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford University, Vanderbilt University
These students will be working with graduate student and faculty mentors throughout the summer performing research and supporting activities in the area of information technology and TRUST related topics.

An example of past TRUST research topics have included:
-- Design of a Distributed Tracking System for Camera Networks
-- Identifying Software Security Vulnerabilities using Fuzz Testing
-- Time Synchronization Security in Sensor Networks
-- Implementation of an Electronic Medical Record System
-- Analysis of Wireless Connectivity in Sensor Network Deployments

We welcome your recommendations and assistance, in identifying promising students for the TRUST-REU 2010 program. We are proud of the high percentage of former TRUST-REU students who have gone on to earn graduate degrees in various engineering fields.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to conduct research directly with our faculty in an eight-week program. Our program is made possible by the generous support of the National Science Foundation.

·         VA GLA Healthcare Systems -- Entry-level position in the Imaging Informatics Group at VA Greater Los Angeles. 

o    DUTIES:  The incumbent provides guidance, instruction, maintenance and troubleshooting services in the day-to-day operations of the Picture Archive and Communications Systems (PACS).  The incumbent is the Assistant PACS Manager, assisting the PACS Manager with daily PACS functions.  Works under the direction of the PACS Administrator and closely coordinates work with IRM and Biomedical Engineering personnel.  Also coordinates work with other services and users of digital radiographic images throughout the medical center.  This position requires knowledge of computer systems as well as imaging systems in a LAN based environment.  Analyzes problems and determines the correct staff to troubleshoot problems with hardware and software.  Performs work related to the resolution of user hardware, software application, and/or system problems as they arise.  Incumbent will assist in the development and installation of new imaging projects.  The employee assists in the development of methods for the collection and retrieval of computer information from established systems to enhance analysis of image related data.  Provides assistance in support of all digital imaging systems.  Monitors the voice recognition system and report errors in Vista and supervising the timely and efficient retrieval, storage, repair, maintenance, and distribution of patient radiographic records.  The incumbent will oversee employees in the conversion of analog diagnostic film images into digital format for on-screen review.  Coordinates training and provides ongoing daily support to users of the Voice Recognition System.  performs a wide range of administrative duties which includes completing necessary paperwork, or compiling data and reports for tracking and evaluating assigned programs.  The VSS may coordinate or assist with other VA IMAGING SERVICE programs or events as necessary, and serve on various committees as required. 

o    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  

o    GS-07 Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service or one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement that included experience with automated processes to help improve the clinical data processing and workflow, skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques and knowledge of EMR computer software, hardware and peripheral devices.

o   GS-09 Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service or a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related that included experience with automated processes to help improve the clinical data processing and workflow, skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques and knowledge of the VISTA computer software, hardware and peripheral devices.
