Professional Summary

Dr. Alroomi is a Construction Management Assistant Professor at California State University, Northridge. She received her Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in 2013. Dr. Alroomi's research interests include knowledge management, learning organization, cost estimating, training, learning models, and engineering knowledge retention and transfer. She has taught several graduate and undergraduate courses at Oklahoma State University and has four years of experience in the construction industry as project scheduler and cost control. She is a member of the Civil Engineering Honor Society (Chi-Epsilon) and the Golden Key International Society.

Professional Summary

Dr. Gloria Melara is a Computer Science Professor. She started as a lecturer in 1985. Granted with the opportunity of The CSU Forgivable Loan Program, completed the Ph.D from University of Southern California in 1994. Dr. Melara’s research has focused on social issues as well as technical problems, as a results she has several published papers and presentations on diverse areas including professional Ethics, learning styles model, assessment,  and multimedia. Lately, she is working on parallel and cloud computing. Dr. Melara has been involved in service learning activities, grants, workshops, and presentations to promote STEM fields in the community. Dr Melara received recognition from her peers as Outstanding Faculty Member in 1996.

Bruno Osorno has been teaching and doing research for over 29 years. He has written over 30 technical papers and given presentations both nationally and internationally. His areas of interest are electrical machines, power electronics, renewable energy (solar and wind), smart grid and power systems education. He developed the electric power program at California State University Northridge (CSUN), including the electrical machines laboratory, microprocessor relay protection laboratory and power electronics laboratory. He is the founder adviser of the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu honor society at CSUN, senior member of IEEE, ASEE campus representative, CSUN College of Engineering and Computer Science Honors Coop Academic Director, Member of the University of Minnesota “Power Electronics Consortium.” He is very active in consulting with fortune 500 industry and national laboratories.

Professional Summary

Dr. Bavarian is a Materials Engineering Professor at California State University at Northridge since 1985. He received his Ph.D from Ohio State University and The Fontana Corrosion Center in 1980. Dr. Bavarian’s research interests include corrosion, failure analysis, environmental effects on materials, composite and nano-composite materials in infrastructures, mechanical behavior of materials and nano-materials, sensor and biosensors. His technical portfolio includes more than 200 presentations and published papers. Dr. Bavarian received the 2012 NACE International Technical Achievement Award. He also received the John J. Guarrera Engineering Educator of the Year Award (SFV Engineer’s Council) in 2008 as well as CSUN’s Outstanding Faculty Award in 2005.

Professional Summary

Dr. Nandikolla is a Mechanical Engineering Professor at California State University, Northridge. She received her Ph.D from Idaho State University. She has teaching experience in the areas of system dynamics, modeling, control theory, mechatronic system analysis and design, and solid mechanics. Her research areas are in optimization techniques, biomedical system modeling, hybrid control theory, design and control of electromechanical systems, and development of devices for biomedical applications. Along with her scientific work, she continues her research in engineering education focusing on project based learning and multidisciplinary integration. She received "new faculty fellow award for outstanding educator and researcher in 2008" from NAE (National Academy of Engineering) CASEE (Center for the Advancement of Scholarship on Engineering Education). In 2009, she received an “honorary materials scientist” award from Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Boise State University.  She is a member of SWE (Society of Women Engineers), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and ASEE (American Society of Engineering Education) since 2004.

Professional Summary

Dr. Robert Ryan earned Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Engineering at CSUN prior to earning his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA in 1994. He has been teaching at CSUN since 1981, and has taught a large number of courses in the mechanical engineering program. His main areas of expertise are heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and experimental methods. He is currently supervising the Human Powered Vehicle senior design project, and is the Faculty Advisor for CSUN's American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Section.
