From the Director’s Desk
We are humbled and delighted that “SECURE for Student Success” (SfS2) was selected by the US Department of Education as one of the awardees in the Title V, Part A, FY 2023 Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) program.
SfS2 is designed to expand the number of Hispanic and underrepresented (URM) students in Art, Health Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science and the STEM disciplines and reduce equity gaps in achievement. Employment opportunities are especially high in areas such as Digital Technology, AI, Health Sciences, Cybersecurity, Biotechnology, Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Technology, and Sustainability. However, workforce shortages and lack of diversity in the workforce are major challenges at local, regional, and national levels. Our overall goal is to increase CSUN’s capacity to serve the needs of Hispanic and URM students in these fields, and to recruit, enroll, retain, and prepare them for exciting careers in the post pandemic workforce.
SfS2 is closely aligned with and complements CSUN’s Road Ahead Strategic Plan and positions us uniquely to advance, and institutionalize the priorities articulated in the DHSI program, positively impacting over 6,000 students while building a sustainable faculty community of practice.
