The competition requires teams to design and build an autonomous ground vehicle, then put it through its paces in a series of challenges. CSUN\u2019s vehicle, Scorpion, tied for second place overall and came in first in the autonomous navigation (auto-nav) portion of the contest, which was held June 7-10 at Oakland University in Rochester, MI.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Turning-in-Rain.jpg\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecs.csun.edu\/ecsdean\/enews\/fp-content\/images\/2013fall\/Turning-in-Rain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatleft alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecs.csun.edu\/ecsdean\/enews\/fp-content\/images\/2013fall\/.thumbs\/Turning-in-Rain.jpg\" alt=\"Turning-in-Rain.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>\u201cThe auto-nav challenge is the most difficult one, and it\u2019s the most spectacular, so that win was more exciting to us,\u201d says C.T. Lin, professor of mechanical engineering, who advised the cross-disciplinary 24-member team. \u201cPeople always watch the vehicles navigating, and it captured a lot of attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the next IGV competition, this year\u2019s CSUN team is designing a brand-new platform, which will be very lightweight and feature a low profile.
