Biomechanics and Ergonomics Department
Bike Fitting our Riders
In our Biomechanics and Ergonomics Department we fitted each of our riders in three riding positions (Aero, Drops,
& Hoods). Each rider was measured for seat height, stack, seat angle, and top tube ; then took the final
average measurements to get a all around efficient geometry for our bike frame.
Body Scanning
Courtesy of Gentle Giant Studios, all of our riders and our stationary fit bike were scanned in three dimensional models to be integrated into Solidworks to run Cosmos Analysis in order to create our ideal frame design.
Motion Capture Testing
Motion Capture Video -
In collaboration with the Kinesiology Department at CSUN, motion capture was conducted on two of the riders-one male and one female. The process included placing markers on specific locations along the body which are then picked up by several infrared cameras. This allowed us to visualize the motion of the rider. Specific joint markers were then traced to see the motion pattern throughout the pedaling stroke. This analysis allowed further verification of clearance with the frame and fairing. The clearance also verified that the riders would not contact any parts of the fairing during normal operation, thus ensuring a safe design.

*Sprint results based on fasted sprinting attempt out of 3.
We placed a powertap unit provided by Boulevard Cycles, on the rear wheel of our test bikes. The power tap unit contains multiple strain gauges which derives the torque exerted by the rider. Above is the Summary of Training on both Endurance and Sprint tests.
