IEEE Region 6 Student Paper Competition, August 30, 2008. Electric Bicycle with Trip Computer, Third Place, $250

2007 IGV National Competition, 15th IGVC (Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition). Placed 5th in Design Challenge with $700 award in the competition. The CSUN entry “LinBot” placed 7th overall

In the IGVC (Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition) 2008 held in Michigan, the CSUN-built autonomous mobile robot NorMAN (Northridge Mobile Autonomous Navigator) took 4th place out of 47 vehicles in the Design Challenge this year. Another CSUN mobile robot LinBot hit a record of covering 5 (out of 8 total) waypoints, which was only limited by the time constraint during the Navigation Challenge. LinBot was also the first robot at the competition to successfully demonstrate JAUS (Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems) Challenge level-2 compliance this year earning an additional $500.igv.jpg

CSUN’s Mechanical Engineering Department has been participating in ASME’s Human Powered Vehicle Challenge for the last three years, after a very long hiatus. This year’s entry was a three wheeled design which used a unique front wheel drive system to minimize drive chain length and thus increase reliability and efficiency. Our team posted a CSUNbest 6th place overall in the western competition, which was held in Reno, Nevada on April 18-20. The team placed 8th in Design, 7th in the Sprint, and 7th in the Endurance event. Our consistent performance in the three individual events was the key to our excellent overall position.
