Advanced Structural Control: Earthquake Protector
EP-2006:  the video clip above presents a comparative shake table testing of the fixed 6-story building model (left) and the 12-story building model on base isolators called Earthquake Protectors (right). See also V1, V2 and V3.  The project entitled “SGER: Testing of a New Line of Seismic Base Isolators” (NSF award No 0618183) is both analytical and experimental.  The developed software called Earthquake Performance Evaluation Tool (EPET) enables various animated virtual experiments on building models with and without Earthquake Protectors.  A major building performance evaluating parameter here is Story Performance Rating.  To download EPET - click on http://www.epet.space3d.biz
Physical experiments on Earthquake Protector are performed at the UCSD Large High Performance Outdoor Shake Table with operational support of the Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES). Logistical support of the research was provided by Basseri Engineering, Santa Monica, CA.  See also: Shustov, V. et al., 2006 (4WCSCM), Final Report for NSF and Valentin Shustov: 5th NEES Meeting Presentation.
