CME-C7Project title:  "Earthquake Protective Pneumatic Foundation "
Investigators: R. Di Julio, V. Shustov.
The main objective of the research is to evaluate the applicability of a new smart earthquake protective system called a pneumatic foundation to the building construction. The system represents a kind of seismic soil isolation. The research will be accompanied with a shake table testing. The study  is focused on
·  developing basic principles of design & engineering of the pneumatic  foundation
·  validation of a new performance testing procedure called Modal Performance Factor Testing Procedure on the new hardware.
Results of the research will, hopefully, encourage implementation of the new smart technique in both residential and non-residential buildings. For a movie demonstration of seismic performance of a smart vs. regular building click here or on the picture above.
