Assessment Plan
Modeling and Design
3/12/10
1.
Student Learning Outcome: An ability to apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and
computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in
a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design
choices -- focus: modeling and design
2.
Evidence to be Used in the Assessment:
a. Project Reports from Comp 380/380L/490/490L/491
3.
Assessment Dates:
2010 - 2012
4.
Assessment Activities to be Performed, When and by
Whom:
a.
2010 Fall semester. Establish a three member subcommittee to
assess modeling and design. This subcommittee will be responsible for all of
the assessment work below. Currently the subcommittee is Diane Schwartz, Robert
Lingard and George Wang.
b.
2010 Fall semester. Develop rubrics for assessing the quality of
student modeling and design work used.
c.
2011Spring semester. Gather project reports
from Comp 380/380L students and from Comp 490/490L/491 students (if available).
Select a sample of the project reports collected. Assess them according to the
established criteria. The projects will be assessed by the Software Engineering
Assessment subcommittee: Diane Schwartz,
Robert Lingard and George Wang.
d.
End of 2011 Spring semester. Prepare an assessment summary report for
the department including recommendations for program improvement.
e.
2011 Fall semester. Based on the outcome of the first assessment,
update rubrics for assessment, if necessary
f.
2012 Spring semester. Gather project reports from Comp 380/380L
students and from Comp 490/490L/491 students (if available). Select a sample of
the project reports collected. Assess them according to the established
criteria.
g.
End of 2012 Spring semester. Prepare an assessment summary report for
the department including recommendations for program improvement.
