1.               Tools to be Used in the Assessment:

Conduct a second alumni survey and assessment of our graduates, i.e., those who earned a B.S. in computer science from CSUN.  The first alumni survey was conducted, analyzed, and summarized in an Assessment Report dated October 15, 2007.  The ECD for the Assessment Report for the 2nd alumni survey is May 2013.

Conduct two employer surveys and assessments of our graduates, i.e., survey managers/supervisors of CSUN graduates in computer science, both present and in the recent past.  The first employer survey will be conducted, analyzed, and summarized in an Assessment Report by November 2011.  A second employer survey will be developed in parallel with the above-defined second alumni survey, using an identical schedule, i.e., the ECD for the Assessment Report for the 2nd employer survey is also May 2013.

2.               Assessment Activities to be Performed, When, and by Whom:

For the 2nd alumni survey:

    1. Propose questions for the alumni survey.  Incorporate enhancements recommended by the 1st alumni survey results.  Obtain faculty inputs/approval before October 2012.  Finalize survey and cover letter.  ECD: November 2012.
    2. Obtain mailing addresses of all known graduates awarded a B.S. degree in computer science.  ECD: December 2012.
    3. Determine how many graduates to survey, based on the available addresses and size/cost of the mailing.  ECD: December 2012.
    4. Mail out the surveys.  ECD: January 2013.
    5. Collect the returned surveys and enter the question responses into an Excel spreadsheet.  Run statistical summaries of the results and prepare a preliminary report.  ECD: February 2013.
    6. Present the preliminary report to the computer science faculty and to the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) for the Computer Science Department.  ECD: March 2013.
    7. Compile feedback from the computer science IAB and faculty.  Complete the detailed analysis of the alumni survey and produce the Assessment Report for the Career/Lifelong Learning Program Area, SLO 17 and SLO 18.  ECD: April 2013.
    8. Investigate possible curriculum changes or other program actions suggested by the survey results.  ECD: May 2013.

For the 1st employer survey:

    1. Propose questions for the employer survey.  Obtain inputs/suggestions at the IAB meeting in April 2011.  Obtain faculty inputs by May 2011.  Finalize survey and cover letter.  ECD: June 2011.
    2. Obtain mailing addresses for known employers of our graduates.  ECD: May 2011.
    3. Determine which and how many employers to survey, based on the available addresses, size/cost of the mailing, etc.  ECD: May 2011.
    4. Mail out the surveys.  ECD: June 2011.
    5. Collect the returned surveys and enter the question responses into an Excel spreadsheet.  Run statistical summaries of the results and prepare a preliminary report.  ECD: July 2011.
    6. Present the preliminary report to the computer science faculty and to the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) for the Computer Science Department.  ECD: August-September 2011.
    7. Compile feedback from the computer science IAB and faculty.  Complete the detailed analysis of the employer survey and produce an Assessment Report for the Career/Lifelong Learning Program Area, SLO 17 and SLO 18.  ECD: October 2011.
    8. Investigate possible curriculum changes or other program actions suggested by the employer survey results.  ECD: November 2011.

For the 2nd employer survey:
