Oral Communications

1.                Student Learning Outcome: Be able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences  -- focus: oral communication

 

2.               Evidence to be Used in the Assessment:

 

a.      Computer Science Senior Design Project Presentations

b.     Oral Presentations in Comp 490

 

3.               Assessment Dates  2010-2011;   2012-2013

 

4.               Assessment Activities to be Performed, When and by Whom:

 

a.      Fall semester. Establish a three member subcommittee to assess oral communications. This subcommittee will be responsible for all of the assessment work below.  [This will be done in Spring 2011]

 

b.     Fall semester.  Select Key Performance Indicators. Review rubrics for assessing the quality of student oral work used in 2005. Revise if needed. [This will be done in Spring 2011]

 

c.      Fall semester. Meet with the instructors of Comp 490/490L/491 to determine the most effective way to evaluate students’ oral presentations during the academic year.  [This will be done in Spring 2011]

 

d.      Fall or spring semester, depending on when the presentations are being done.  Assess (i.e., Listen to and evaluate) the oral presentations in Comp 490/490L/491. 

 

e.      Prepare an assessment summary report for the department including recommendations for program improvement the end of the Spring semester.
