Written Communications

1.                Student Learning Outcome: Be able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences  -- focus: written communication

 

2.               Evidence to be Used in the Assessment:

 

a.      Term Papers written in Comp 450 or in Comp 490

b.     Project Proposals in Comp 490

c.      Project Reports from Comp 490/490L/491

 

3.               Assessment Dates  2011 - 2012; 

 

4.               Assessment Activities to be Performed, When and by Whom:

 

a.      Fall semester. Establish a three member subcommittee to assess written communications. This subcommittee will be responsible for all of the assessment work below. Currently the subcommittee is Diane Schwartz, Jack Alanen and Robert Lingard.

 

b.     Fall semester. Develop Key Performance Indicators. Review rubrics for assessing the quality of student written work used in 2005. Revise if needed.

 

c.      End of fall semester. Gather the term papers written by all students taking Comp 450. Gather  project proposals from Comp 490 students and project reports ( if available) from Comp 490/490L/491 students.

 

d.     Spring semester. Select a sample of the term papers and project proposals collected. Assess them according to the established criteria.  The papers will be assessed by the Communications Assessment subcommittee:  Diane Schwartz, Jack Alanen, Robert Lingard.

 

e.      Prepare an assessment summary report for the department including recommendations for program improvement the end of the Spring semester.
