Application of Basic Concepts and Tools (Computing and Mathematics)

1.                Student Learning Outcome: Be able to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline.

 

2.               Evidence to be Used in the Assessment:

 

a.      Multiple choice, true/false, fill-in exam consisting of material covered in relevant programming  courses, including COMP 110/L and COMP 182/L.

b.     Multiple choice, true/false, fill-in exam consisting of material covered in relevant computer concept-related  courses, including COMP 122/L, COMP 222, COMP 322, and COMP 310.

 

3.               Assessment Dates  2010-2012

 

4.               Assessment Activities to be Performed, and by whom:

 

a.      Fall 2010.  Establish a three-to-four member subcommittee to assess basic concepts of computers.  This subcommittee will be responsible for all of the assessment work below.

 

b.     Fall 2010.  Develop assessment test questions based on material from related concept-oriented courses (COMP 122/L, COMP 222, COMP 322, COMP 310).

 

c.      Spring 2011. Set rubrics for excellent, acceptable, marginal, and unacceptable results, and revise questions as necessary.  Administer the exam in COMP 424 and analyze the results.

 

d.     Spring 2011.  Prepare an assessment summary report for the department, including recommendations for program improvement.

 

e.      Fall 2011.  Establish a three-to-four member subcommittee to assess basis concepts of programming.  This subcommittee will be responsible for all of the assessment work below.

 

f.      Fall 2011.  Develop assessment test questions based on material from programming-related courses (COMP 110/L, COMP 182/L, COMP 282, COMP310).

h.     Spring 2012.  Administer the exam in an upper division programming-intensive course and analyze the results.

 

i.       Spring 2011.  Prepare an assessment summary report for the department, including recommendations for program improvement.
