Cam Caddie Project
Daniel McElderry developed his company CamCaddie® and the product that they are currently distributing the CamCaddie® scorpion model. This product is a simple to use portable device that was developed to be universally used with any type of portable camera. The CamCaddie® is a light piece of equipment that requires no training, assembly and no maintenance of any kind making it much more convenient for all consumers. With the rapid changes in technology, short comings were identified when operating modern cameras. The positioning of the camera and the supporting equipment, microphone/attachable LCD displays/lighting, are critical to get the best shot possible. A group of college engineering students at California State University Northridge set out to solve this problem in their MSE 415 class. With the direction of Dr. Mark Rajai, the group developed a company and design case that ultimately ended up with being awarded a patent. The company was structured to provide maximum efficiency to cover all functioning requirements to develop and grow the business. To develop a low cost, light-weight product to a specific sport enthusiast market requiring filming with secondary markets supported as well.
This project was undertaken to develop a business case for bringing the design of a product to life. An examination of the current product, current market, surveys for customer needs, current competition, and future development required. With the direction and guidance of Dr. Mark Rajai, the group took a concept from conception to development and readied a plan for the next phase for the company. This project helped develop the students to learn the requirements of company in the business/manufacturing world.
